about

Recorded in New Orleans in 1997, this album featured a sextet put together by Erik Jekabson for a gig at Snug Harbor and a recording session that followed. The band is top notch: saxophonist John Ellis has gone on to be a bandleader and played with Charlie Hunter, Lonnie Smith and Darcy James Argue and trombonist Jason Jackson is a regular in the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Ron Carter, Roy Hargrove and Dizzy Gillespie Alumni big bands. Pianist Andrew Adair toured the world with Donald Harrison before becoming a lawyer, and James Singleton remains one of New Orleans' most beloved bassists, playing with everyone from James Booker and Chet Baker to the collective Astral Project. Anchoring the rhythm section is the swinging and subtle drummer Geoff Clapp, who continues playing and teaching in New Orleans with musicians like Jeremy Davenport, Peter Martin, Donald Harrison and Terence Blanchard.
